Getting Up

Gona fix the lighting and cut the first couple of frames off from the start.
Also planning on making the overall movement smoother.
He is shaking his head but its kinda hard to see.
These are just first draft renders for anyone interested.

Waking Up

Needs some polish, gona clean up the textures once the animations out of the way cos that's what I'll be marked on. He's mumbling "eurgh my god."
Gona add a bit more to it methinks, needs more head movement.

Natural Reaction

Makes sense, I wouldn't want to get up at that time either

Oh, a little light bulb that blinks

The alarm is going off, Glen better get up, lazy git

A clock!

Horrible time of day, poor Glen.

Wonder how he'll react, find out soon.

NEW POST!!!

Hey all, no I've not disappeared and no I've not stopped working. You'll be pleased to hear that the reason for my lack of updates is because I've mainly been rigging and skinning both Frank and Glen. Posting pictures of that process would have gave a rough idea on how frustrating this process was but alas, its done.

Since I last posted I had my Crit week, which once again went well and now it is out of the way I can focus on getting on with everything now.

Last Friday we had a meeting with Tern TV on the shiny 2nd floor at Abertay. Now normally I'm not a huge fan of meetings but this one was a good 'un. We got divided up into different art departments with my focus being to create the VINE environment from "But n Ben a-go-go." To keep everyone up to speed, the VINE is effectively like The Matrix/Tron where the users plug in to a machine. People enter the VINE for different reasons be they good (going on holiday) or bad (fugitive on the run inside VINE).
Anyhoo, safe to say, I'm happy with what I've been allocated and as a start here's a quick logo concept I put together. Hope you like it.

Adv Interatction - Character

Here's the start of my character for my run/chase/escape game.

Let's call him Frank, with a jawline like that, Frank fits.

The camera will be behind him in the actual game so his face doesnt matter a whole lot, just nice to know he has one.

Started skinning him earlier, once thats done, I'll cut poses of him out of pieces of wall that will come towards for the "Hole in The Wall" part of the game.

If you don't know what Hole in the Wall is, have a gander at this

Glen with added vest

Glen wearing his work vest, nuff said.

The headless body is for when he's just wandering round the house (naked?)

Quick Tern Sketch

Wanted to show a quick sketch I did for the Tern TV idea. Met with them last Friday and safe to say we're all pretty excited about this project.

The project will see us working on a game idea based on the book "But'n'Ben A-Go-Go" by Matthew Fitt. For more info on the book click here.

The jist of the book is that in the year 2090, after global warming has caused "God's Flood" one of the last places to be above water is the Highlands of Scotland, now known as the "Drylands."
The Senga virus (similar to HIV) is running rampant but the only cure is to find the person who infected you and get some of their DNA. The characters that hunt this bounty are known as "blood lawyers" of whom we will be basing the game around.

Based on some of the concept art I've seen from others in the group and the general feel of the book I'm hoping we're going to go for quite a dark feel to the game, something I would love to work on.

I'll let y'all know how it goes

Glen's house

Thought I'd throw out a few more renders, first one here is obviously of Glen's gargantuan TV, one of the many reasons he doesn't want to go to work.

This is where Glen has his business meetings before work, where he y'kno, takes care of business.

And this is the start of his kitchen renovation, looking quite bare at the moment but will flesh out over the next few days.

If you're anything like myself you're getting bored of all the grey so I'm gona start texturing them over the next few days as well, give them a bit more life. That and model some more props for each room.

Til then, cya.

Glen's Bedroom

As the title suggests, this is Glen's room, where he gets his sleep on obviously.

Working on the bathroom just now and just going to work my way through a list of props he's going to use in the animation.

Tern TV

Last Friday I was offered a spot working with Tern TV, a spot I initally thought I had lost. Thanks to a recommendation from one of my tutors I've now been given the opportunity to work with an actual company which pure and simply, is a damn exciting prospect.

This unfortunately means that I'll be departing the Nuclear Pumpkin team and their sweet game idea Protoverse. For the timebeing I'm going to carry on helping the group however I can until they can get another replacement artist.

In an ideal world I would have loved to work on both projects but I feel that if I dont take advantage of this opportunity at Tern it would be a choice I would regret. Where else than in uni are going to get a chance to work with an actual company.

Here's to hopefully the start of something awesome.

Glen - Mesh Modelled

Got Glen finished today, or at least the start of the finish anyway. I'm going to round off his head more, see how the face holds up with the blend shapes and obviously UV map the poor fella as well.

Also got a first attempt at the first level of Protoverse (the title of the game with Nuclear Pumpkin) but I'll put that up once I've had my meeting with the group tomorrow.

New content incoming...

Just because there've been no posts doesn't mean there's been a lack of work going on (im convincing myself here too).

Updates since last post:
  • I've nearly completed my 3D model of Glen using Maya 2008 with only the head left to model (will have pics over the weekend). Going to begin rigging him this weekend too.
  • Managed to hone my overall story for Glen today in my Screenwriting class, happy with where its going
  • Game idea with the Nuclear Pumpkin fellas is coming along well, liking the pace we're going at and that we are actualy making progress.
  • Pitched my run/chase/escape game to one of my lecturer's this week who gave me some helpful feedback and came up with a cool suggestion for the game. Going to speak to the coding lecturer to see if he predicts any hiccups I might come across.
  • Pitch week went well, had a really good laid-back group with good feedback from everyone. The new process was an improvement on last year I reckon.
  • Went along to a BBC pitch for Prototype this afternoon and was surprised at how interesting it seemed. I think we might get a chance to take part in their brainstorming fortnights, even if we are working in a group for something else as well, which would be a good opportunity for some insight into how the industry works.
Anyways, that's all for now. Time to catch up on some sleep, and next week there will be renders

Nuclear Pumpkin

Here's a quick sketch of where I'm thinking of going with the logo for our Personal Project.

The name of our team is, wait for it: Nuclear Pumpkin (so cool).

Pitch Week

Got a few things together for my Pitch Week at uni.

Advanced Interaction - I'm thinking of creating a 3D run/chase/escape game so spent the day throwing this concept together (left).

Advanced Visualisation - Here's Glen, an alien who hates his job at his local supermarket but has to do it everyday. Going to write a script for this in my Screenwriting class and then animate it for Adv-Vis.

Welcome

It's official, I'm now going to start blogging as well.

Where my social networks are about me, my blog will be based more around any projects I'm working on, be they for university or just for the fun of it.

Time to shutup and get on with it.
